Saying goodbye to NZ and hello to OZ

Since our last post we have moved out of Cher, bid farewell to New Zealand, and arrived safely in Melbourne to the welcoming arms of our friend, Rose.

The second week of our roadtrip was pretty laid back. After carrying Kyle's surfboard to the beach 3 times, we decided it was time to actually get out there and give it a try. Let's just say that surfing isn't as easy as it looks and leave it at that. I think we need some lessons. Another highlight was meeting a guy named Phil. He was also sleeping in his car but was a bit more prepared than us. He shared the wealth and turned our car into a B&B...we awoke to freshly brewed coffee and toasted muesli. Gotta love Kiwi hospitality!

The last couple days of living in Cher got a little frustrating, but we survived and were rescued by a lovely couple, Holly and Dave. They live in Hawke's Bay, just outside of Hastings on the North Island, amongst beautiful views, tons of wineries, and lots of cows and sheep. They saved us from each other and we gave them good practice for the arrival of their first child (2 of us were probably harder to deal with than 1 new born)! All in all we spent a refreshing couple of days at their home and left prepared to continue our travels.

On our way back to Auckland we stopped again in Rotorua ("sulfur city") to see Fergus (a friend from BU) row in a regatta on Blue Lake. After a quick reunion we made it back to the city and spent the next day walking around Auckland, prepping for our trip to Australia, and annoying Kyle and Lauren for one last time.

Since in Melbourne we have seen a bit of the city and are now out in the suburbs at Rose's house. The city is buzzing because of the Australian Open and this weekend should be pretty crazy as it is Australia Day. We plan on going to the horse races out in the country.

More soon...

Its scary to see how easily the two of you adjust to being homeless, living in a car with your underwear hanging behind you.
Can't get enough of the pictures.

well it's been almost 4 weeks since my return from Rio with the girls and it's taken me this long to recover from the overwhelming amount of food and beverage consumption I witnessed and had the pleasure to participated in. I feel so much better having seen the girls in action firsthand, now I am even more confident in their ability to survive this great adventure. Eileen, give them both a big hug for me when you see them. And thank you Lauren for being there for them. I miss you guys. Love ya. xoxo

Well, I just spoke with your mom who is just sooooooo excited to get on a plane tomorrow for 22 hrs.
I see nothing wrong with doing laundry and saving the envirnoment by hanging your clothes to dry, although I would really prefer not to see them. I think you should be careful of a guy that serves toasted something or other for breakfast. He could be a health nut or something, although if there is fiber in that stuff maybe he's not so bad.

Hello, My sister is missing! She left here and was supposed to be with you guys by now, but as her arrival would have been the most wounderful thing that has happened so far on your travels you would have shared this news with all of us. What could have possibly have happened to her? Could she have had trouble locating the motel...oh I mean the car you are staying in. Could she be wandering around the outback being attacked by dingos and boxing with kangaroos? I'm worried, what if she asked directions and didn't understand the funny English they speak? Stop what you are doing and find her! She's the good sister (Don't mention that to the other ones, they get real touchy about that) Put up signs, offer a reward. Remember if you do find her she'll probably let you two shower in her room for FREE!

With no thanks to you two I have confirmed my sister made it safe and sound to the other side of the world. I don't understand though why you haven't updated your post. Just how many free showers can you be taking? If nothing else you should be posting how good it is living in an actual room instead of a car so that once your mom/friend's mom goes home you can read about it to kill time while you are looking for other free showers. Also even though she has done some traveling its been nothing on this scale so please let her know the benefits of fiber. Hope your having a great time, use sunscreen. Love ya.

AT the airport and using the "free" internet to post this. The girls have told me its up to me to post the next blog, so I will be getting it all down on paper while I take my 22 hour flight home. Girls are looking great and seem comfortable and confident in their wandering--seems they enjoyed the homeless thing, but bounced right back into hotel living. As requested they stood on the curb and waved good by to me until I couldn't see them anymore. The driver offered to cirle the block for one more look, but I declined. I hate the long goodby!!!!!!
Post some pictures you two.
